Blog Post- Week3

This weeks readings were shocking and disappointing to me, especially when it comes from a woman who has pretty good knowledge about the Islam and the Quran. What’s disappointing is that she didn’t take the effort of looking at Islam from anther perspective, where we see Islam is completely not sexist and actually supports women in all fields, its like she was waiting for anything to find in Islam to prove that it is a sexist religion. As a Muslim woman that was raised in a fairly religious yet modernized culture and environment, I find this reading very bias and the analysis did not persuade me at all.

What caught my attention mostly was her talking about Hadith and her interpretation of it. Before her talking about Hadith, she should have explained the different types of hadith. Mernissi saying that the Hadith is fabricated is completely offending and unacceptable. Her interpretation of the Hadith is that a woman and a dog are the on the same level, what is meant by the hadith that women can be a source of distraction to men and by saying “dog” its satan.

Also, she spoke about the Abu- huraira “name” and that story is not true. The actual story is that Abu-Huraira saw a kitten on the road and took it and put in in his sleeve and took care of it and when the prophet (PBUH) saw him he gave a nickname “Abu-Huraira”.
