Week 7 Readings
At first I was surprised when Murray and Roscoe's article, but as I read I remembered all the other examples in history of accepted homosexuality. Probably what surprised me the most was that these young boys were often raped. It was disturbing to know once a boy was penetrated, he was fair game until he hit puberty. I'm trying to keep an open mind, but I just don't think young children should be repeatably raped for the release so to speak of older men. Plus the drawings showing men lined up to rape young boys, who are smiling dumbly and trusting was pretty hard to swallow. Besides that, it is interesting I suppose that homosexual acts were acceptable, as long as no one bragged about it.
